ABOUT

Zoe Contreras is the artist behind ugliart, where drawing and clay meet somewhere in the middle.

Her work lives between illustration and object—handbuilt pieces carrying small scenes, characters, and moments. There’s nothing better than a fresh batch of porcelain; it’s a clean slate every time, even when the ideas aren’t.

She is currently building at Nola Clay Studio, working almost entirely by hand. The wheel and she have an understanding—she leaves it alone, it leaves her alone. Handbuilding keeps things a little imperfect, a little closer to the feeling of a drawing you didn’t overthink.

Through ugliart, her pieces stay personal, slightly offbeat, and just strange enough to make you look twice.
